Ferritic ductile iron

Ferritic ductile iron is a special kind of iron which manufacturers in all type factories and engineering projects. A favorite of builders and manufacturers, this type of grey iron castings is malleable, strong and relatively easy to work with while having the added benefit of being very tough and durable. An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements that have special properties when combined. In this post, we will explore ferritic ductile iron in much greater detail to find out exactly what it is and how this material can be applied in a variety of different ways to our everyday lives.

Examining Ferritic Ductile Iron's Properties

Ferritic, ductile iron, while it is a cast iron internally has its own unique structure that distinguishes it from other types of cast iron grey. It has micro rounded bits known as graphite nodules and a squishy stuff called ferrite. The ferrite phase (the green part) is soft and malleable, enabling easy forming operations, whereas the graphite nodules are responsible for toughness.
